Difference between measuring microscope and digital microscope

-Using a digital microscope allows you to replace your measuring microscope at a low cost.-

1.What is a measuring microscope?
There are various forms, from those using a simple monocular microscope to those using a full-fledged microscope.
Measures the length of the object using the amount of movement of the attached stage.
The accuracy of the linear scale and micrometer attached to the stage is the measurement accuracy.
However, since the start and end points of the measurement location are aligned with the human eye, human errors may occur.
Depending on the specifications of the stage, shapes from about 25mm to 200mm can be measured.
Price is around 1 million yen to 5 million yen

2. Measuring principle of measuring microscope
Use an eyepiece with a cross line.
Let's take an example of actually measuring the outside diameter of a washer.
(The following is an image of the measurement. In reality, align it with the cross line in the eyepiece of the microscope with the naked eye.)

(1) Align the cross line with the starting point of the outer diameter you want to measure.
(2) Since the XY stage is moved by a micrometer, reset the micrometer to zero.
(3) Move the XY stage with a micrometer until the cross line is the end point of measurement.

(4) The number on the micrometer at this time is the outer diameter of the washer.

3. Advantages and disadvantages of measuring microscopes
●Advantages
1.No calibration (adjustment) is required before measurement.
2.Even if the object is not in the field of view of the microscope, it can be measured as long as it is within the table's travel distance.
3.Accuracy can be expressed as it depends on the accuracy of the measuring device attached to the table.

●Disadvantages
1.Measurement takes time.
2.Can only measure horizontally and vertically.
(Oblique measurements are also possible if a rotary table is used.)
3.Can only measure the distance between two points (cannot measure angle, area, or distance between centers of circles)

4.Replacement with digital microscope
If you think of it as a tool to confirm the start and end points of measurements instead of a microscope, it can be replaced.
However, since there is no eyepiece part, a function to display the cross line on the monitor is required to capture the start and end points.

5. Dimension measurement digital microscope (CT200 series)
Furthermore, we will introduce a digital microscope specialized for dimension measurement.

As long as the digital microscope is within the same screen, it can overcome the following three shortcomings of measuring microscopes.
・Measurement takes time → Measurement can be done with just a click
・Can only measure horizontally and vertically → Can measure at any two points
・Can only measure distance between two points → Can measure angle, area, distance between centers of circles, etc.

This dimension measuring digital microscope also covers two disadvantages of digital microscopes.
(1) Adjustment (calibration) is required at the time of installation
→ This dimension measurement digital microscope has been adjusted (calibrated) before shipment from the factory.
(2) Changing the magnification requires switching the adjustment value (calibration value)
→ Since the lens and camera are communicating, no adjustment is required even if you change the magnification.
(3) Accuracy cannot be guaranteed.
→ A dedicated glass scale is available as an option that allows for the issuance of a calibration certificate.
Additionally, the calibration certificate for the glass scale used during factory adjustment can be downloaded from the website.

Of course, large measurement points that cannot fit on the same screen can be measured using the attached table, just like a measuring microscope.

6. Summary of differences between measuring microscope and digital microscope
